SOCIAL SECURITY WEB SITE

The Social Security Administration has set up a web site to help individuals obtain information about the SSA's disability programs. Some of the information the site provides includes an overview of Social Security's disability determination process, the roles of the individuals Social Security and Disability Determination offices, and evidentiary requirements for benefits. The site can be reached at: http://www.ssa.gov

OVERPAYMENT RECOVERY MADE EASY

Is your organization struggling to gather information needed for overpayment recovery after a Social Security approval? Direct deposit of retroactive funds has done wonders for timeliness of payment to the claimant. In fact, some claimants receive payment before notice that they have been approved. Notices of Awards are still taking over 60 days in most cases to reach the claimants. The speed at which approved claimants are awarded has done little for those with interests in recouping retroactive overpayment, and in fact may jeopardize the collection of overpayment. Information that organizations typically find useful include the following:

. Type of Award Code
. Date of Current Entitlement
. Payment status (or lack of payment status)
. Monthly Benefit Payable
. Initial Date of Filing and Entitlement
. Current entitlement code
. Dual-entitlement code (if drawing off of more than one wage-earner's record)
. Date 20/40 last met
. Date of Disability Onset
. Level of last denial code
. Date of entitlement to DIB
. Applicant's disability cease date
. Cessation Disability Reason
. Decision Date
. Disability Benefit Cessation
. SGA Disability Payment suspension date
. Basis for Denial Code
. Current SGA activity
. Trial work period information
. CDR origination date and reason for investigation
. Monthly payment amount Payee
. Periodic Review Data, including medical reexamination/examination diary note, permanent or nonpermanent status, and medical reason for requested review
. Diagnosis by ICD-9 code
. Pending appeals Review (whether or not benefits were continued during CDR)
. Back pay amount
. Attorney fees withheld
. Dependents names and dates of birth
. Family maximum benefit

Obtaining this information from the Social Security can be exhausting and often unsuccessful. However, Kennedy & Associates, Inc. can produce this information for primary beneficiaries in all cases when desired by the referral source or third-party administrator.
